Set up approvals
Ask for a second set of eyes before a change set becomes part of your configuration. You choose who can approve and how many approvals it takes.
Approvals are optional. Turn them on when you want someone to look a configuration change over before it becomes part of your configuration. Once they're on, a change set waits until enough of your approvers have approved it.
Turn it on
- Open your workspace settings and find Change-set approval.
- Tick “Get changes approved first”. That's the switch. The rest of the settings appear underneath it.
- Add your approvers. Choose the people or groups who can approve. You can mix individual people and approver groups.
- Choose how many need to approve: any one of them, everyone, or a set number you pick.
- Check who can approve. To start with, a change set needs someone other than the person who made it. There's more on that below.
- Set a timeout, if you want one. Tick the option to deny a change set that isn't approved in time, and give it a number of hours. Without one, a change set waits as long as it takes.
- Choose Save.
Who can approve
Under Who can approve there's one box: Someone other than the person who made the change. It's on to start with, and it's the setting worth understanding.
While it's on, whoever put a change set together can't approve it, even if they're on your approver list. The number of approvals needed adjusts to whoever's left, so a “two of three” rule becomes two of the two people who can actually give it. Untick it and anyone on the list can approve, including the person who made the change.
From now on, each new change set opens for review and waits until your rule is met. For what happens next, see Approvals.
